Healthy food

I have been trying to turn my food habits around the last 2 years. Since living in Finland my meat consumption has reduced considerably. The wide variety of vegetarian food available at every student restaurant has greatly play its part. The other has been the costs of good quality meat. I miss Peruvian food a lot and it is so very likely that when I'm back home I will throw away the vegetarian in me to a corner - at least for that short period.

The environmental impacts of meat industry and animal cruelty are my main motives to prefer nowadays vegetarian meals. The variety of organic (luomu) products offered in the stores in Turku has also make me realize that it doesn't really take much effort to become a conscious and responsible customer. Living with another ecologist has helped as well to motivate me (the bf).

The term for what we are is actually "flexetarians". We are inconsistent vegetarians who every now and then eat meat. But which meat? Jamón serrano is a good example. I sometimes eat fish and whatever I have the chance I try game meat. After all I believe that eating meat from a well managed animal population is a sustainable choice (reindeer and moose are very common in Finland). Fish - yeah that is not so well managed but still include in my diet occasionally.

To share some v-ideas, this is the meal I prepared today: Spinach souffle. Just mixing eggs, spinach leaves, striped carrots, milk, mozzarella cheese, normal cheese, salt and pepper. The result is tasty, vegetarian, cheap and healthy.

Give it a try!
