Transitioning into Zero Waste Lifestyle
I've been already changing my lifestyle little by little, we consume small amounts of meat (flexetarians) and we try to buy most products with the bio label. But lately I thought to take the change one step ahead. I've always felt the need to start producing less waste in my daily life and I finally have the motivation to do so.
So far, first step has been reviewing all my beauty, bath, hair and dental care products, decide which ones are the ones I can't really live without. And find sustainable alternatives for all the others.
In this post I will focus on my hair and shower as well as dental care products.
Left to right: Listerine whitening, dental floss, plastic tooth brushes,
bamboo tooth brushes, bio coconut oil,
self-made tooth paste, Sensodyne whitening.
1. Dental care
By recommendation of our dentist, we have started using Sensodyne whitening dental cream. I have also bought Listerine whitening, as it was recommended that we alternate the use of these 2 products. I think I won't be giving up to them, but I have tried now making my own tooth paste (small container below the coconut oil). I combined the bio-coconut oil with baking soda, and the resulting cream tastes weird I am not gonna lie. But I think I can get use to it. I will just need to find an essential oil to add to the mix and help with the taste. I plan to use this home-made tooth paste with the Listerine.
What is new here, is that we're now gonna change to compostable Bamboo tooth brushes, once our plastic ones' lives are over. As I don't really use the dental floss very often, I have been waiting for ages to finish the one I have. Now that I don't eat that much meat, my need of flossing has diminished dramatically. When this package is finished, I will buy a zero waste version.
Bamboo Tooth Brush HydroPhil: 3.80 EUR
Left to right: St- Ives apricot scrub, Bioturm intim wash-gel,
Lush shampoo bar Trichomania, Natur gut bio-coconut oil,
John Frieda Dream curls daily styling spray,
Lush American Cream conditioner, The body shop Moringa shower gel.
2. Hair and shower care
I am super happy with my Lush products so far, the shampoo bar Trichomania is the best zero-waste alternative to shampoo for curly hair. Combined with the American cream conditioner have a really awesome moisturizer effect on my curls. That being clarified, I won't give up to the this conditioner despite its bottle-package. I am however considering to try other package-free conditioners from Lush.
Another product I have hard time giving up is the Moringa shower gel from The body shop, I love the smell and I also use it as shaving foam so I think it's safe to say, I am keeping it. What I will give up is to the John Frieda curls daily styling spray, I absolutely love it but I have found out recently that a small amount of my bio-coconut oil serves very well as a styling cream and I already use this oil as a deep treatment cream for my hair. Once I finish the St. Ives scrub, I am not gonna get a new one. My mom gave it to me as a gift so I couldn't refuse. Lush have some face&body scrubs without packaging and I will give them a try.
I have not add it to the picture but we use a zero-waste soap for our showers (at Bio-markt for 2 EUR comes without packaging) and once my Bioturm Intim gel is finished, I am not buying it again.
All 3 products I am giving up are amazing, but I guess I can live without them.

Soon will be posting about more changes in daily care-products! And I will also write a post describing the Lush products I am using and loving.
